Clean and restore
This 19th century oil painting had become ingrained with dirt and much of the varnish had been removed. On initial examination, some additional canvas was discovered at the top, which could have been part of a larger painting as it was stuck to the board. The join and damage were restored and the painting cleaned up and revarnished, giving it a splendour it had not seen for many years.
